Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin Finds Value in ChatGPT and AI Capabilities

Ethereum’s creator, Vitalik Buterin, has expressed his admiration for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a chatbot driven by artificial intelligence that has captivated global attention since its launch the previous year. Buterin detailed his hands-on experience with ChatGPT 3.5 in a recent blog post, outlining how it helped him tackle real-world challenges.

In the blog, Buterin described how he queried ChatGPT to assist in writing a script aimed at calculating expected travel times in public transit between two specific GPS locations. The chatbot exceeded expectations by not only providing sample scripts but also suggesting datasets to refine the query. Moreover, upon request, ChatGPT collated and presented resource links for further guidance.

Buterin was pleasantly surprised when ChatGPT furnished a scatter plot showing time-distance correlations, which helped him optimize public transport travel times. In addition, the chatbot supplied a script for parsing location data from online sources.

The Ethereum creator found it remarkable that ChatGPT’s insights covered a variety of transportation modes—ranging from walking to hypothetical interstellar travel—and observed a surprisingly accurate relationship for time-duration between different points.

One of the aspects that impressed Buterin the most was the chatbot’s capacity to introduce him to unfamiliar online libraries and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). He views this as a way the AI technology levels the playing field between novices and experts. ChatGPT has gained widespread recognition for its user-friendly interface and wide array of competencies, from coding to academic research.
